You already know that is very important to adopt a healthy, balanced diet: you get your energy from food.

But, do you know how to do it? If you want to adopt a healthy, balanced diet, you must follow some simple rules:


A healthy, balanced diet must included nutrients from all the food groups. We are going to study the nutrients in the next lesson.


Water is very important. You must drink at least six to eight glasses of water every day; and when it is hot you must drink more water!!

People must eat the correct amount of food.

- If you eat too much food, that 'extra food' will become fat in your body, and you will put on weight. To lose weight, you will need to exercise.

Being overweight (very fat) or underweight (very thin) is a serious problem because it can cause health problems.

Diets vary depending on many things: your age, your sex, the amount of exercise you do.


- Age: young people need to eat more, as they spend more energy.

- Sex: men need to eat more than women, as they spend more energy.

- Exercise: if you do a lot of exercise, you will need more energy, so you will need to eat more.

RUNNING NEEDS LOTS OF ENERGY!!


You need to eat 5 times every day: breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack and dinner.


- Breakfast: it is very important, as we need energy in the morning (for working or studying). A good breakfast must include milk, fruit and cereals.


- Lunch and dinner: they must include different types of food, as we need a wide variety of nutrients. Lunch and dinner must include proteins (meat or fish), vitamins (vegetables) and carbohydrates (cereals).

- Snacks: healthy snacks are fruit, milk, yoghurt or a sandwich. Forget about chocolate and sweets.

The first video is a basketball game: healthy food is playing against fast food. Which team do you think is going to win?




The second video is a song about fast food (or junk food). You should never forget that fast food is bad for you.
