TRADE

Trade is the exchange of products or services for money. For example, you can buy some apples or contract a painter if you pay for them.

There are two types of trade: domestic and foreign.

  • Domestic trade: when products or services are exchanged inside a country. For example, you buy some bread in a local supermarket.

  • Foreign trade: when products or services are exchanged with other countries. For example, you are living in Spain and you buy some clothes in England using the Internet.

Usually, producers do not sell their products directly to the consumers. There are some stages involved in this process. That is what we call "the chain of trade":

  1. First, the producers obtain the products they want to sell.

  2. Second, the transporters transport those products to the shops or supermarkets.

  3. Third, the sellers sell the products.

  4. Fourth, the consumers buy the products.

TOURISM

Tourism is the business of providing services to the people who are on holidays.

What does a country or a city need to be a successful holiday destination? Basically, four things:

  • Nice weather: not too cold or hot.

  • Good food.

  • Great landscapes: like beaches, mountains, forests,...

  • A wide cultural offer: museums, monuments, language,...

In Spain, tourism is a very important business as it provides many jobs: waiters, cooks, drivers, hotel managers, receptionist, tour guides, ticket sellers,...
