You already know that humans can reproduce.

The reproduction is the process which allows humans to have babies.

The reproductive system is the part of your body responsible for reproduction.

Men and women have different reproductive systems.

Male reproductive system

The most important organs are the testes and the penis:

  • The testes: they have an oval shape and they produce sperm. The testes (singular - testicle) are located in the scrotum, a bag made of skin located under the penis.

  • The penis: is a long organ located over the scrotum. The urethra runs through the penis and the sperm leaves men's body through the penis.

Female reproductive system

The most important organs are the ovaries, the uterus, the fallopian tubes and the vagina.

  • The ovaries: they produce the ova (singular - ovule). The ova are like little eggs. The ovaries have an oval shape and they are located in the women's abdomen.

  • The fallopian tubes: they are two tubes that connect the ovaries and the uterus. The ova travel from the ovaries to the uterus through the fallpian tubes.

  • The uterus: it has a pear shape and it is located between the ovaries. It has muscular walls and is where the babies live and grow.

  • The vagina: it is the tube that connects the uterus with the outside. Babies leave women's body through the vagina.

Human reproduction

We already know, that the human reproduction is the process that allows humans to have babies. It needs two people: a man and a woman.

Basically, there are 4 steps:

  1. The sperm and the ova are produced in the male and the female reproductive systems.

  2. Fertilization: it is when a spermatozoon and an ovule join to make a baby.

  3. Pregnancy: it is the development of the baby in the mother's uterus.

  4. Birth: it is when the baby is born.
