To study the Earth we can use many different maps. On this course, we are going to focus on the Earth globes.

Earth globes are very useful to study the Earth, because they have the same shape as the Earth (a sphere) and they are also tilted to one side (do you remember that the Earth's axis is tilted 23.5º?).

The axis is an imaginary line that crosses through the center of the Earth connecting the North and the South Poles.

On Earth globes we can also see the Equator, an imaginary line that divides the Earth in two hemispheres: the Northern hemisphere and the Southern hemisphere.

We can use the Earth globes to study the oceans and the continents:

  • In the Earth we can find 5 oceans: the Atlantic, the Arctic, the Indian, the Pacific and the Antarctic Ocean.

  • Continents are large masses of land separated by oceans. There are 6 continents on the Earth: Africa, America, Europe, Asia, Oceania and Antarctica.

What about watching a couple of videos to make this lesson easier?

On the first video you are going to learn a song that will help you remember the oceans and the continents.

On the second video you are going to watch how the continents were formed, and how they will look like in the future!
